In November 1996, the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) was instructed by the Dutch Government to carry out a study of 'the events prior to, during and after the fall of Srebrenica'. For the purposes of this independent historical analytical research, the Government undertook to do everything in its power to grant the NIOD researchers access to the source material at its disposal. On 10 April 2002, this report was made public with the presentation of the first copy to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Loek Hermans, as representative of the Government.

The English language version of the report has been placed on-line within this site. PDF versions are not available, so the report has been recreated as a navigable set of sections, which can be either opened and browsed on a section-by-section basis using the table of contents, or searched on-line using intelligent search technology.

The original version of the site was released on 16th August 2002, and was based on the first English translation of the report (produced +/- 23rd July 2002). English versions of the appendices to the report were provided in April and May 2003, and were placed on-line by BSL at the end of May 2003.
